Have you ever felt like you hit rock bottom? Maybe you woke up one day and realized your life was out of control. Maybe an addiction has taken everything from you—your peace, your family, your purpose, and your hope.
Friend, you are not alone. Many people have been there. The good news is, God meets people at the bottom. In fact, sometimes He lets us reach the bottom so we will finally look up. If you’re struggling today, there is hope—and that hope is found in Jesus Christ.
1. What Does It Mean to Hit Bottom?
Hitting bottom is more than just making a mistake. It’s the moment when you realize that you’ve come to the end of yourself. You’ve tried everything you know to fix your life, and nothing has worked. You feel empty, broken, and helpless.
David felt that way when he wrote in Psalm 40:2, “He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay.” David knew what it was like to be stuck, dirty, and hopeless. But he also knew that God was able to pull him out.
In the world of addiction recovery, hitting bottom is often the point when a person becomes willing to change. They finally admit that they can’t do it on their own. That’s when God can start to work.
2. God Sees You in the Pit
You may feel forgotten, but God has not forgotten you. The Bible says in Psalm 34:18, “The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” That means God is close to the brokenhearted. He sees your pain. He hears your cries.
Jonah hit bottom—literally. He was thrown into the sea and swallowed by a great fish. But in the belly of the fish, he prayed, “When my soul fainted within me I remembered the Lord” (Jonah 2:7). Even there, God heard him. If God could hear Jonah from the deep, He can hear you too.
No matter how far you’ve fallen, you are never beyond the reach of God's grace.
3. Jesus Came for the Broken
Jesus didn’t come for the people who thought they had it all together. He came for the ones who knew they were lost. He said in Luke 5:31-32, “They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
The woman at the well had five failed marriages and was living with a man who wasn’t her husband. But Jesus didn’t shame her—He offered her living water (John 4). That’s what He offers to all of us: a new life, a clean heart, and a fresh start.
If you’ve hit bottom, remember this: You’re exactly the kind of person Jesus came to save.
4. True Recovery Begins With Jesus
There are many addiction recovery programs out there, but true healing starts with a relationship with Jesus Christ. At Delivered Overcomers, a Christ-centered addiction recovery ministry, we believe that Jesus is not just part of the answer—He IS the answer.
John 8:36 says, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” That means freedom from addiction, from shame, from guilt, and from sin. You don’t need to carry that burden any longer. Jesus died on the cross so that you could be free.
Romans 10:13 gives us a promise: “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” That includes you. You’re not too far gone. God is ready to rescue you right now.
5. God Can Use Your Rock Bottom for His Glory
The enemy wants to use your failure to destroy you. But God wants to use it to deliver you—and even to help others. What you thought was the end of your story might just be the beginning of your testimony.
Joseph was betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, and thrown into prison. But later, he told his brothers in Genesis 50:20, “Ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good.” God took Joseph’s pain and used it to save many people.
That’s what He wants to do for you. Through addiction recovery, you can become a Delivered Overcomer, and then turn around and help someone else who is struggling.
Your scars can become stories. Your past can become a platform. Your failure can become fuel for your future.
6. Start Today—One Step at a Time
You may feel overwhelmed. That’s okay. You don’t have to fix everything overnight. God works in steps. Psalm 37:23 says, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.”
Start with one step—turn to Jesus. Then take the next step—get help. Come to a church. Join a support group like Delivered Overcomers. Read the Bible. Pray. Surround yourself with people who love God and love you.
Recovery isn’t easy, but it’s possible. And you don’t have to walk the road alone.

8. Hope Has a Name—Jesus
Your situation may seem hopeless, but hope has a name—and His name is Jesus.
Lamentations 3:22-23 reminds us, “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” God has not given up on you. Don’t give up on Him.
There is life after the bottom. There is peace after the storm. There is hope after hitting bottom—and that hope is found in Jesus Christ.
Come join us. Delivered Overcomers meets every Thursday at 6:30 PM at Bible Baptist Church in Crossville, Tennessee. There is freedom in Christ—and there is a place for you here.
